Mad about matcha: The healthy beverage trending on socials

  • F&B, Insights

There’s no doubt that Matcha is the new IT-girl beverage taking socials (and our office) by storm. A great alternative to coffee, matcha is packed full of amazing health benefits, plus,  it’s delicious!

The Benefits of Matcha

Matcha is not just a trendy fad – it’s packed with a range of health benefits that make it the perfect alternative to coffee.

Gentle sustained energy release

While coffee is a beloved morning ritual for many, it can have harsh effects on the body. Coffee has a high caffeine content which causes our cortisol, adrenaline and insulin hormones to spike. Although at first, this gives us a sense of energy, this is often short-lived and followed by an energy crash a few hours later and as such, is called a ‘fake energy’ source. Matcha on the other hand contains significantly less caffeine and is a lot more gentle on the body. It doesn’t come with the spike and crash rollercoaster.

Antioxidant-rich

Similar to other green powders, matcha is full of antioxidants including catechins, flavonoids and polyphenols. These have multiple health benefits including boosting metabolism, promoting weight loss, anti-ageing, promoting skin health and anti-inflammatory, the list is endless!

Promotes relaxation

Matcha also promotes relaxation thanks to the amino acid L-theanine found in it. L-theanine is known to have calming effects on the brain by increasing the production of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), serotonin and dopamine. This can help reduce stress, improve mood and promote relaxation without causing drowsiness.

A Trending Craze

With its eye-catching green colour and amazing health benefits, matcha has become a favourite amongst wellness enthusiasts and social media influencers.
