International Women’s Day

  • Culture, Insights

We want to shine a light on some of the remarkable and talented women we have the privilege of working with this International Women’s Day.

Let’s ditch the clichés and embrace the everyday celebration of women at Sister London! With Sarah and Kay leading the charge as our fearless founders for nearly 25 years, our sisterhood is stronger than ever.

To mark this special day, we’re shining a spotlight on some of the amazing women across our client base who inspire us daily. Get ready to meet some incredible individuals we have the privilege of working with.

Nina Penlington, Head Cutter at Edward Sexton on Savile Row

Savile Row is a go-to spot for bespoke tailoring, boasting over 30 tailoring houses that craft the finest suits in the world (and hey, no bias here!). But did you know that many of the skilled hands behind the seams are women? Meet Nina Penlington, a powerhouse holding the prestigious Head Cutter position at Edward Sexton.

Edward Sexton isn’t just any tailoring house; it’s a haven for celebrity clientele like Mick Jagger, Harry Styles, and Twiggy. Nina’s been weaving her magic on The Row for 16 incredible years, contributing her talent to crafting suits for numerous notable figures. But Nina’s not stopping there— she’s all about shining the spotlight on more women in the trade. That’s why celebrating International Women’s Day holds a special place in her heart. Let’s give a round of applause to Nina and all the amazing women making waves in the world of bespoke tailoring!

Ebby Yasar, Founder of Ebby’s Kitchen on Lamb Street in Spitalfields

In the spotlight last year, Spitalfields revealed its newest culinary hotspot on Lamb Street, home to the delightful Ebby’s Kitchen. Born in 2012 from a passion for flavourful, no-fuss cooking, Ebby’s Kitchen is a gem serving up mouthwatering traditional Turkish dishes alongside irresistible halloumi fries.

Whenever we encounter the founder, Ebby Yasar, she radiates warmth like a ray of sunshine. Her culinary journey is deeply rooted in admiration for the inspirational women in her life: her mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law, who instilled in her a love for cooking and the determination to forge ahead. Let’s raise a toast to Ebby and the delicious legacy she continues to build!

Henrietta Rix & Orlagh McCloskey, Co-Founder & CEO of RIXO

In 2015, Henrietta Rix and her closest confidante, Orlagh McCloskey, sparked the flame of RIXO’s creation right in the cosy confines of their university flat. Fast forward to today, with three bustling stores gracing central London, including the charming Marylebone Village locale, RIXO is truly living its dream.

Their Marylebone Village flagship recently underwent a glamorous transformation, mirroring the brand’s playful and eccentric spirit. We’re captivated by RIXO’s narrative, a testament to the formidable force of friendship—two dynamic women uniting to craft something truly great. Cheers to Henrietta, Orlagh, and the vibrant journey they continue to embark upon
