Sunset Boulevard at the Savoy Theatre

  • Culture

Highly recommend you book tickets to see Sunset Boulevard at the Savoy Theatre, London!

This theatre production is based on the 1950 film of the same name and tells the story of Norma Desmond, a faded silent film star, and her relationship with a struggling young writer named Joe Gills played by Tom Francis. The book and lyrics are by Don Black and Christopher Hampton, and the music is by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The production is set in the Savoy Theatre, which dates to 1881 and is a little gem found next to the Savoy Hotel in the heart of London’s West End. I went on a Monday night, so I didn’t see a performance starring Nicole Scherzinger but was captivated by the outstanding performance by the understudy Rachel Tucker. On arriving in the foyer, you are greeted by the best front-of-house team and directed down many stairs to the depths of the theatre.

All the cast are incredibly talented and excellent, and you can’t help but be immersed in the story of Hollywood glamour with the visual effects and great acting. I love the London theatre scene, and this show is one you shouldn’t miss. It is not the happiest of storylines, but I found myself wishing it would not end.

Highly Recommended!
